Born and raised in San Francisco, John has been a native Bay Area resident his entire life.  After graduating from St. Ignatius College Preparatory, he attended San Francisco State University earning Bachelor’s Degrees in Finance and Banking and a Master of Business Administration.  He is also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™.

After working on the consulting side of the business at MSCI-BARRA, Inc., a company founded by U.C. Berkeley professors, John decided that consulting with fund managers wasn’t going to be enough.  He wanted to be the fund manager directing the portfolio investments.

In 1998, John found himself back in San Francisco sitting on the trading desk and managing portfolios for Mellon Capital Management, a wholly owned subsidiary of BNY Mellon with over $300 Billion of assets under management.  Here he refined his skills and learned first hand how to navigate the volatile financial markets of the Russian Debt Crisis, the Dot-com Bubble, and the Financial Crisis of 2008.  While at Mellon, John was a member of the team that launched a Long/Short Credit Hedge Fund for the bank and ultimately, he became the fund manager.  In 2013, John redirected his focus to the areas of credit and global index funds and began managing Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) as a subadvisor for WisdomTree Investments.

In his spare time, John enjoys being a dad to his 8 and 5 year old sons, Jonathan and Jordan.  He also enjoys hiking, mountain biking, working out, and reading.  His latest passion, started soon after his milestone 50th birthday, is learning to play the piano.
